Spring wrap-up: What we've been up to

On June 21, we officially usher in summer. We’re excited about all our upcoming events, including Camp Emily, our weeklong summer camp for child survivors of domestic violence. We’ve also had a busy spring! Here’s what Emily’s Place staff and board members have been up to. In April, Mark Hagan, Emily’s Place founder and president, and Kerry Marzahl, executive director of the Plano campus, attended Missions Sunday at Legacy Church in Plano to join the church's other mission partners in sharing news about the exciting work we’re doing.

Also in April, Emily’s Place staff members attended the Crime Victims' Rights Luncheon hosted by the Collin County District Attorney. The event, called "Survivor Voices," is held each year to honor victims of crime in Collin County and those who assist them in their journey. According to the Texas Advocacy Project, 1 in 3 Texans will experience domestic violence in their lifetime, with girls and young women between the ages of 16 and 24 experiencing the highest rate of intimate partner violence, at almost three times the national average.

And to celebrate Mother’s Day, Emily's Place Board Member Denis Lambert and his team at NTT Data assembled gift bags for all the brave moms at Emily’s Place who have fled domestic violence and are working to heal their families and improve their lives. Thank you for your support!
